About Us

The Brand

Founded in 2007, Shitake Clothing isn’t just any other clothing brand.  Shitake doubles up as both a clothing brand and an indie lifestyle brand.  Shitake Clothing draws much of its inspiration and influences from both society itself, and the many different ideals and positive perspectives in life.  It is a brand that uses its rich, profound ideals and views in life to inspire and motivate others.

Since its founding, it has reached individuals from both within the nation and across borders.  Shitake isn’t just a brand, it is a lifestyle.
The Slogan - “Shit Happens…Shift Matters”

Let’s face it, shit happens, and if you disagree, just wait and see ; ).  We’re not prophets, but there are three things that we can promise you in life:

(1) You’re going to die one day, that’s life

(2) You’re always going to be paying some sort of tax

(3) Shit will hit the fan one day!

Have you ever had a stream of “bad luck”, or a phase when things just didn’t work out; and just when you thought that things ought to get better, you fell again…  Sucks eh? At first we thought so too, but then we started catching on… Today we can proudly say that each of those “unsuccessful attempts” have in fact been very very successful. Why? Rather than not doing something right, we successfully discovered a way each and every time to NOT do something right.  If you didn’t get that, read it again, it’ll come very handy in life, trust us.

Think about it for a second, less than 150 years ago, if you said you wanted to fly you were thought to be crazy.  Now, a 105 years after the Wright Brothers had achieved their dream, we have jets and even spaceships!  In 1902, Henry Ford wanted a better engine, he wanted an engine with six cylinders, that could produce more hp and more torque.  At the time, even his greatest engineers thought that it was impossible.  Four years later, the V6 was born.  In 1878, a partially deaf young man with only the three months worth of education changed the world–that man was Edison.  Prior to his successful light bulb, it was estimated that he had over 15,000 attempts before he got it right.  If any of those people ever gave up, we wouldn’t have half the luxuries in life that we have today. So why  would you ever give up?

The Logo

Shitake /ˌʃiiˈtɑkeɪ/

–noun, plural -ke

Ever since we founded Shitake Clothing back in the fall of 2007, almost everyone we have come across would ask us “What the heck is Shitake, and what’s the meaning behind this strange logo?”  In case you didn’t catch on already, shitake or shiitake (pronounced Shi-ta-ke), is a type of mushroom ( the former had a better fit with the meaning behind our brand ).

If you still haven”t caught on to the logo yet, its a mushroom, shaped like a piece of fecal matter, hence “shit”ake(duh).  Now some of you might be thinking how on Earth did we think of this, and that we must’ve been high on shrooms.  Well here’s the long anticipated answer:

“The symbolism in shitake can be found in everyone’s life”

Scientifically, Mushrooms, which are saprophytes, break down non living matter and “eat” dead plants to grow and flourish, while returning much of the nutrients back to the soil. In addition, have you ever noticed how mushrooms tend to grow exponentially after periods of abundant rain?

Some of your are wondering, what do mushrooms have to do with us?
There are no forms, no limitations, the philosophy behind shitake
can be found in everyone.

Don’t just take shit and go through challenges in life just to settle with it. Use it, learn from it, and grow.

Every low, every unsuccessful attempt is more valuable
in the end. The seemingly useless things, can be the most important and influential. These experiences are what truely define an individual’s growth. Branch off, and grow your ideas and your dreams.
Soak up every inch of thought and belief!

“Shit happens, that’s life, it’s the shift in thought and action that matters in the end.”
